In the summer of 2009, we will be hosting an 9 day Marine Biology Camp at the University of Hawaii, Hilo for high school students.

Daily activities will include volcano study & visit; snorkeling on both sides of the island; coral reef and fish mapping and many other marine biology studies.  We will view Sea Turtle protected sites.  Each camper will create a "sand map" with samples of the various sands found on Hawaii.  Each student will be given a personalized curriculum binder that will be used throughout the camp.  Depending on volcano conditions, the students will make a nightime viewing trip at a lava ocean entry site.  Various snorkling sites will be utilized by the campers; both on the Hilo side and the Kona side.

Students will leave from Oakland or San Francisco Airport, California; fly to Hilo for the camp's first 4-5 days.

After Hilo, the camp will proceed to the "Kona" side of the Big Island for the final 3-4 days.  The camp will conclude with a snorkel cruise to beautiful Kealakekua Bay, "pathway to the Gods", aboard a 55' catamaran.   That night the camp concludes and the students fly back to the mainland.
